Volunteering For Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is a not-for-profit, community based volunteer organization working throughout Australia. In Queensland, Meals on Wheels have been delivering the service for well over 60 years.

Meals on Wheels provides delivered meals to clients who need assistance, regardless of age. Many of our clients are frail and aged, however, we also offer delivered meals to clients recovering from surgery or an accident, who have a short-term or chronic illness, or are respite care. This valuable service assists our clients to remain independent and in their own homes.

Meals on Wheels is “not drop and go; it’s stop and chat”. Admiring photos of grandchildren or discussing the clients’ interests may not be part of the official job description for a volunteer, but these interactions can mean a lot and help ease the feeling of loneliness that many in our community experience.

Every day our friendly volunteers provide important social contact and help to monitor the wellbeing, health, and safety of our clients. Families also have peace of mind knowing we are in contact with their loved ones regularly and ensuring they are well.

Your contribution to our organisation will not only assist our clients but will also enable Meals on Wheels to continue operating. We rely very heavily on the contribution of volunteers, in fact, without volunteers such as yourself, Meals on Wheels would be unable to continue.

The 9,000 volunteers who make Meals on Wheels possible, deliver 2.5 million meals a year across Queensland, to more than 15,000 people with a wide variety of support needs.

If you would like to enjoy a rewarding and fun volunteering experience by delivering meals and staying to have a chat to those in our community who need assistance, we wish you a very warm welcome and hope you have many satisfying years with Meals on Wheels!
